Camila Torres, Student President, Bachillerata

Since I entered Bachillerato (secondary school) I was elected to represent my form in the Fasac committee of represenattives. Now I'm in tenth grade and this year I was elected as the student's President. Although in the last years I have been very involved, this year I have a better understanding still of how great is Fasac's social work. As the student President I organise things such as Jeans Day, raffles, Bake Sales and other events. My job, I consider, is a tough but satisfying one. What I try to do is to make the Anglo students concious of the social and economic situation of the country, specifically the people's situation who live in the communities where Fasac gives aid. The students at the Anglo Colombian school are very fortunate to have all the things we have. We've got education, food, home and a family and various entertainments. Whereas the children in those communities lack all those things which we everyday take for granted. When I talk to the students I try (and have achieved) to motivate them to share their things, not only material objects but also feelings and goodwill with the children. It is right to pay for Jeans Day and cooperate whenever Fasac asks for money, but the most important thing is to have the good will and be concious that the small amount of money you give for those kids is a fortune for them and even more so if you share it with love. This year, as always, we had our Bonfire Night and mini bazaar. We collected a lot of money, which has enabled us to plan a huge Christmas party for all the community kids. That day, after hard work planning the party the only reward I asked for was to see those children smile, and when I saw them I felt I had done something good for the world. Everytime I have to sacrifice time with my friends to be spent in Fasac activities I'm always thinking of how happy I am doing my work and how satisfying it is. I feel proud of my job anf of Fasac. Nowadays it is very difficult to find so many people with huge hearts and as much good will as the people involved in Fasac have.
